Guitarist Keith Christmas was born in Wivenhoe in 1946. He met David Bowie around 1969 and was invited to play acoustic guitar on what became the Space Oddity LP. Keith put out a few albums and was an early 1970's opening act for the Who, the Kinks, and Frank Zappa among others. But like another Wivenhoe character we know, Keith got disillusioned with the music industry and became a construction laborer. He eventually returned to music and is still around. Here he is on the Old Grey Whistle Test with an a cappella folk song about Robin Hood being a dope dealer. Rather clever self-censorship. I sense a definite Cleaners vibe in his attitude!

That’s quite an interesting video, Aging Pierogy. The early 70s, when someone can sing a dope ditty while smoking a ciggy. Those days now seem as distant as Robin Head’s, erm, Hood’s era. Also sounds like something that Dr. Demento should had played on his show.
