At long last, Martin's cinematic tribute 'The Jangling Man' is out. I expect to view it this weekend. Comparisons to 'Upstairs Planet' are inevitable, but there's certainly no surplus of Newell films out there.
There's also a new Andy Partridge EP out - 'My Failed Songwriting Career' - four tunes that he offered to other artists, who turned him down. Martin knows that feeling too, I think. My copy is on order at the moment.
I wish I could attend the Golden Afternoon in Colchester but it is not to be. This is what pay per view was invented for!

Was able to watch the new doc as soon as the Kickstarter email announcing its arrival came through last week. No spoilers, but I'm betting the pubgoers will be quite delighted with the results. Really happy the filmmakers were able to bring this to fruition.
(One thing I did notice is that the edit they put up on Vimeo appears to be missing a few of its stylized speaker captions letting the viewer know which talking head is currently on screen. A small thing but hopefully it can be corrected.)

Folks who contributed to the Kickstarter campaign were direct emailed a Vimeo link to stream a sneak preview of the completed film, presumably as a "thank you".

I'm most of the way through Jangling Man and it's a true feast for established fans. They've assembled a wide assortment of Martin's old collaborators to comment. Lee Cave-Berry! Tony Phillips! Ian Peppercorn! Ichiro Tatsuhara!! (Bachelor Johnny does not appear even though he was quite good in Upstairs Planet.) And the archival footage is fantastic. I never saw that old clip of 'I Hank Marvinned'. Wish it was complete. Can anyone identify the biker chick neighbor who claims to have produced one of the Guv's records? I'm too lazy to go through them all.
All that being said, I can't see this project attracting many new fans. That may not be its purpose, anyway. It's a very insular sort of environment, a masterful love-letter to the initiated. Compare it to Edgar Wright's Sparks documentary. He pulled in loads of big celebrities to praise the Maels without saying anything useful. Jangling Man pulls in loads of insiders to praise Martin with affection and insight, but they mean nothing to the general public. That's fine with me.
