What does it say about the state of the pub when Martin releases a new album and there's not a peep about it here? Am I a bad person if I prefer the Corner Laughers' version of Goodguy Sun?
But what I really want to mention is the curious case of the single version of "How Sweet To Be An Idiot" by Neil Innes. I am ashamed to admit I never knew of its existence until it came out on the recent expanded Idiot album. "Backed by a full band" the reviewers said, so I tried to sample it on Amazon and iTunes. Leaving aside buyer complaints that the two versions were switched in the running order, I was frustrated to find that only the piano version would play regardless of which one I tried to sample. Well, as it turns out, the single has been on the web for the last five years. I find it fascinating - after many decades with only the piano version, this will take some getting used to. There are many cases of single mixes being better (to my ears) than the album counterparts - Kate Bush, Adam Ant, XTC... I can't say where I will come down on the Idiot question.

Ted, these days I think that the old pub feels like this:
Anyway, I did get Martin's new album & I've enjoyed it. I do like "Good Guy Sun" (I didn't know that it was covered) & "Every Time I Go Up" is a remake of one of his early songs.
As for that Neil Innes single that got him plenty of money after Noel Gallagher got caught stealing, I got the CD reissue for Chrimble & also enjoyed it.
