From May 28 until June 11 you can experience exclusive worldwide streaming of the recent Cleaners documentary! Don't come crying to me on June 12. I've never heard of this site, but I'm hoping it's reliable and functioning. Doc'n Roll Film Festival

So how was the film, Joe? Did the streaming site operate correctly? I'm waiting until this weekend to sign up. Do you get 48 hours to view it as much as you want?

What a Newell-tastic weekend! The Wivenhoe Lockdown Festival live performance and 48 hours of Upstairs Planet streaming. The movie was great - wonderful contributions from Lol Elliot (Kate Bush fighting with Bjork!) and Bachelor Johnny. Even the young critic had worthwhile things to say. Pity the footage of "Summer In A Small Town" was so brief. What were the circumstances of that show? Was that Giles playing guitar? And I could have used more of the J.R. Hartley poetry performance. DVD extras to be sure. And now for "Upstairs Planet - the Prequel". Having my curiosity piqued by Bachelor Johnny, I soon stumbled across a website devoted to Plod wherein it was claimed that "..noted film producer Michael Cummings bought the movie rights [to This Little Ziggy], and so the second half of the book, the story of Martin’s time on the road with Colchester’s finest band, is to be made into a comedy, and several of the band’s tracks will be on the soundtrack album." Um, I'll believe that when I see it, as the saying goes. But most interesting if true. The Mighty Plod

Sorry for the late reply, Ted, I didn't see your query until now.
I watched Upstairs Planet twice on my iPad & I had no problems downloading it at all. As for the documentary itself, it was a bit ramshackle, but I enjoyed it. I thought thatLol has some issues w/Martin after the first scene where he was talking w/the brick. I also loved seeing the vintage footage, especially those TV appearances which were split 4 to the screen. I would have love to see the originals.
I also saw the Lockdown Festival & it was nice to see Martin do his best despite the crappy weather. Seeing him in that tri corner hat reminds me of Paul Revere & the Raiders.
Finally, speaking about books about 70s Brit Glam also rans, have you ever read Sick of You by the guy behind the Hollywood Brats? He comes off more arrogant than Martin, which makes the book funny to read.

Definitely Giles playing guitar on that live version of Summer In A Small Town. I was wondering who was on drums. What a great piece of footage, who knew such a thing even existed?

Today I saw Graham Bendel sitting down for a Q&A with the most celebrated writer in Essex. Yes, Steve Howe's captivating daughter-in-law Zoe. What a busy lady - and a drummer as well - I must investigate her more closely. It was amusing when some viewer asked the provenance of the 'Summer In A Small Town' clip and Graham couldn't recall, but the Guv was watching live and texted Zoe the answer (Wivenhoe Mayfair 1997). Finally a good use for technology. The holy film grail must be the French radio concert of 1994 with Captain Sensible in the band. Possibly the most affecting thing about the film (to me) was Martin telling the story of how his long-ago girlfriend told him not to play the Gypp EP because "nobody likes it" and then near the end hearing Hilary Lazell say she couldn't really appreciate Martin's music. I guess some things never change.

"some viewer" = me. I was able to watch it live too. Was kinda shocked that Zoe offered my question up right outta the gate. Thanks to Martin for chiming in with the answer.

I too was heartsick at the story of the ex-girlfriend, though Hilary L.'s dismissal of Martin's music really killed me. I had to watch the scene over to make sure I'd heard correctly. Come to think of it, all of the film's disclaimers of "x decided not to comment for this film" stung me too -- c'mon people! We're talking about Martin Newell! The filmmakers should have called me: they would have had a "we had to edit down these comments extensively" situation.
