Newell superfan Aug Stone (under his nom de blog Young Southpaw) has conducted a marvelous interview with Kevin Crace on the history of the Humbug record label. Aug doesn't actually have to do very much as Kevin is a born storyteller. A great deal of the interview is about Martin, but there is plenty of other interesting material. Aug confesses to never having heard of Humbug artist David Yazbek. Aug is in for a treat as Yazbek's excellent early rock albums mark him as the American Andy Partridge. He went on to much bigger things on Broadway and now possesses Tony, Emmy and Grammy awards. I confess to never having heard of the '80s phenomenon of Monty and the Dubious Brothers. They wed sharp topical (for the '80s at least) lyrics to incongruous music hall tunes, presented via a raucous stage show. Recommended to all Bonzo fans. One of their first videos to pop up in my browser was filmed at the Colchester Arts Centre!
This Humbug interview elicited a comment from Martin himself, which led me to discover that Martin has his own YouTube channel (population: 2 videos, posted a month ago). Gotta start somewhere.
